Should the Federal (or state) governments increase the tax on gasoline to motivate people to buy more efficient gasoline-fueled vehicles or to demand more alternative fueled vehicles? Should that additional tax be used to be given back as tax credits to individuals who buy such new vehicles?
Should the USA increase the Federal gasoline tax to nudge people about their vehicles?
Should give bigger tax break to incourage purchase of more effecient vehicles, furnaces....:-)
Should the USA increase the Federal gasoline tax to nudge people about their vehicles?
I THINK WE PAY ENOUGH IN GAS TAXES THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! Not everyone can afford more efficient gasoline fueled vehicles. I think they are taxing us enough and the gas companies are getting away with huge profits. So my answer is NO cause the only people who can afford those cars anyway make enough money that they dont%26#039; need a tax credit like that.
Should the USA increase the Federal gasoline tax to nudge people about their vehicles?
Nope...they should add a couple of thousand dollars onto the price of gas-guzzling SUVs. Why should everyone be punished?
Should the USA increase the Federal gasoline tax to nudge people about their vehicles?
Most people don%26#039;t have $30,000 or $40,000 laying around to buy a new car.
Should the USA increase the Federal gasoline tax to nudge people about their vehicles?
That is quite possibly the most asinine idea I have ever heard. Do you know what the average price for a Hybrid car is? It is a lot higher than a minimum wage job can afford and so your idea is to hurt the individuals that have the most problems already? There have been numerous stories of individuals having to pawn some of their belongings just so they can afford gas to drive back and forth to work and so your idea is to make them pay more for gas because that will some how influence them to buy a car that they cant afford? Asinine.
Should the USA increase the Federal gasoline tax to nudge people about their vehicles?
I don%26#039;t think it would work, motivation-wise. People that can afford a Hummer or an Escalade can also afford to pay $75 a fill up. For middle-class folks already on the market for a new car I think a tax credit for an alternative fueled car might make a bit of difference.
I think the main reason people don%26#039;t want to buy a hybrid car is because it takes to long to charge when driving using the battery.
Should the USA increase the Federal gasoline tax to nudge people about their vehicles?
No I thiink that would be be stupid because the people that cant really afford gas now cant afford new cars and we all know that the tax break wouldnt b that much lot at the tax break you get when you buy a hybrid now! Not much of a tax break no wouldnt b much of a tax break later and also food, clothing and everything else would skyrocket because of this so called tax you want to have because tractor trailers run off gas to so your also saying make a hybrid tractor trailer that clearly woudnt work
Should the USA increase the Federal gasoline tax to nudge people about their vehicles?
Interesting proposition. The major factor in the high gas prices right now is demand. By creating incentives for more efficient vehicles, demand would decrease. I don%26#039;t think that the incentives should work off of a tax as the price would even back out, however, some alternate incentive plan would be worthwhile.

Government imposing or artificially inflating a price of a service or good is a treacherous road to start down. And then redistributing those monies is robbery. (Though many would say we are way down that road...)
