Can someone please help me with a few tax questions?

I am a full time college student, work part time, own a rental property, have a 10 month old baby, and was Married in 2006. My AGI is less than 25k (which includes investment income) and my wife is a stay at home mom. My wife and I are 20 and 22 yrs old.

What type of tax credits, deductions, exemptions should I keep in mind? How much should I expect to get from EITC? Can I receive a larger tax return than what I paid in? Should we file jointly?

Lastly, from my rental property, my income was about 6k but I have deductions to write off about 5k of that. Do I still qualify for EITC?

Sorry for all the questions, but I would like some clarification before taking the step to file taxes this year and I dont want to get audited.

File married filing jointly. You should receive the child tax credit and possible the addtional child tax credit. EIC depends on if your investment income was over 2,900. May qualify for tuition credit, hope, or lifetime learning credit.
